A custom miniature creation process

Many times, when you ask us about the process of creating a customized miniature, we tell you that there are a few factors that influence it, sometimes being a bit confusing. With this article we want to tell you more deeply how the creative and production process is developed. We hope you like it!

First of all, the most important part is YOUR IDEA . You often have a very clear idea of what you want, you have prepared some designs or references about the final product, so our art team only has to adapt your preliminary ideas to be able to turn them into a high detail miniature . But there is still a long way until you see your model on the battlefield! In other cases, there is no graphic material to sketch a preliminary model, but do not worry, our team has a lot of experience in the creation of miniatures and will help you in everything you need to be able to create a model with which you are completely satisfied.

The price of our service is based on several parameters. On one hand, we would have the modeling price , which will be based on the hours that we will invest as well as the level of detail you need in your customized miniature. On the other hand, in the printing process, there are two factors that are unknown for many people. The first important factor is the amount and type of material used . In this case, we have different techniques to reduce the amount of material without compromising the integrity or detail of the model. On the other hand, 3D printing bases its costs on the VOLUME that occupies the object on the 3D printer so, although it is curious, a 5x5 cube will be much more expensive than the 35mm miniature more detailed we can offer. As you know we are also players and collectors so we will be happy to help you as much as possible to lighten these costs.

Once the preliminary idea is clear and the project is ready, we enter the process of digital modeling, in which we convert all those references that we have set in the first phase into a 3D object in which we invest an average of 20 to 30 hours of work . For example a miniature on foot is not the same as a terrifying dragon of colossal dimensions! During the time that this process lasts, we will be maintaining a fluid communication with you so that the final result of your customized miniature is perfect . Many times, we need to adapt to the demands of the 3D printer, so the pose or scale of certain parts of the model must be adjusted to avoid breakage or loss of detail.

Finally we have a digital model of your idea so it is time to choose materials for printing . The printing times of the models that we usually make are around 5 and 10 days, so do not panic, the process today is still a bit slow, but we hope that in the future we can reduce these times drastically. Among the materials we offer, we have different options to get different results based mainly on the use you want to give to your model.

For those who want to use miniatures for wargames or board games, our recommendation will be the Black High Definition Acrylate, a plastic material with a high level of detail and a resistance more than enough for your games.

If, on the other hand, you want the miniature to have a slightly higher level of detail but a increased fragility , we offer you the Frosted materials Frosted Ultra Detail and Frosted Extreme Detail . This transparent material offers as much detail as possible inside the plastics but it can be somewhat brittle, so we recommend you to choose it only if you are not going to use it very intensively .

For larger models such as monsters or scenography models, where the detail would be bigger and the cost could be increased too much, we think that the best option is Strong and Flexible Plastic white or black. This material offers a lower level of detail, but this should not be a problem, since our design team will be responsible for optimizing the details so that it remains impressive. The advantage of this material is the reduced cost compared to the previous ones, which makes it perfect for large models.

Finally, we also have a metallic material, the Stainless Steel , in which the level of detail is very reduced, but it offers a very high resistance and a very impressive final result. This option can be perfect for your cartoon models, gifts, more exclusive tokens, etc.

Finally, your custom miniature will be ready for shipment. From Imagine 3D Miniatures, we make shipments worldwide and we will inform you of the delivery times in each specific case, which will usually be 3 days after the printing is finished.

Once you have your model at home, we will be happy to publish the photos you send us of your final result, as well as the painting that you want to give or integrated into your game, but thats not the end of it! You can also sell and publicize your model from our store , with which you can accumulate money for a future project or receive a direct benefit of sales.

Over the last few years, we have done many projects both for individuals and for companies that you can see on our website Custom Miniatures and if you have any doubt about our work and creative process, or want to order your own miniature , do not hesitate to contact us via info@imagine3dminiatures.com
